TIPPERARY

The first recorded race meeting at Tipperary races at Barronstown Course was on March 27th, 1848 but at the current Limerick Junction racetrack it was September 1916. It's a long way to Tipperary, so the popular 1912 song went, but in fact, it's much nearer than you think, is very straightforward to get to and worth it when you do. During the spring and summer meetings it is possible to see future champions in action. For instance, the first and second in the 2002 English Derby, High Chaparral and Hawk Wing, both won their two-year-old maidens at Tipperary.
