Racing has been taking place at Beverly racecourse since the 16th century, hosting meetings which often complemented the higher profile racing at nearby York. The track’s two notable Flat races over the summer are both five-furlong sprints. The Hilary Needler Trophy for two-year-old fillies is run in late May or early June, and was won Easton Angel in 2015. Michael Dods’ filly went on to win twice at listed level as a three-year-old before making the frame in the Group 2 King George Stakes at Goodwood. The listed Beverley Bullet Stakes takes place in August and is usually hotly contested. Northern sprint favourites Tangerine Trees and Borderlescott have won the race in recent years.
